Drexel Celebrates Veterans Week November 9-13

Drexel Blue and Gold goes Red White and Blue in honor of our military veterans Monday, November 9 through Friday, November 13, 2009. Activities across the University have been planned in recognition of Veterans Week 2009.
Ongoing Events
Supply Collection for the Troops
Today, November 5 through Thursday, November 12
Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity, Alpha Sigma Alpha Sorority and Drexel Democrats will set up collection boxes at various locations across the University City Main and Center City Hahnemann campuses to collect supplies for gift packages for men and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Collections will close on Thursday, November 12 and packages will be assembled and sent out on Friday, November 13.
Collection locations are:
- University City Main Campus: all residence halls; Office of the President, Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets); Westphal College Dean’s Office, Nesbitt Hall (33rd and Market Streets); LeBow College Dean’s Office, Matheson Hall (32nd and Market Streets); Facilities Management, General Services Building (34th and Market Streets); Office of the Dean of Students, Creese Student Center suite 215 (32nd and Chestnut Streets); Office of the Vice President for Government and Community Relations, Main Building, suite 228; 3201 Arch Street, first floor; W.W. Hagerty Library (33rd and Market Streets); and Daskalakis Athletic Center (33rd and Market Streets).
- Center City Hahnemann Campus: Bellet Building lobby (1505 Race Street); Hahnemann University Hospital lobby (245 N. 15th Street); New College Building lobby (245 N. 15th Street); and 3 Parkway Building lobby (1601 Cherry Street).
Items needed by the troops include athlete’s foot cream/ointment; batteries (AA and AAA); beef jerky, pepperoni sticks and Slim Jims; black ink pens and pencils; small boxes of coffee and tea bags; comics from Sunday newspapers; crackers; crossword or Sudoku puzzle books; diaper wipes (with packages in Ziploc bags); disposable cameras; DVD movies (no war films); eye drops; flip flops for the shower (large sizes for men); travel-sized shampoo, toothpaste, foot powder and hand creams; granola or Power Bars; chewing gum; hand warmers; hard candy; individual drink mixes (dry Gatorade, Kool Aid, tea/with sugar); cashews, peanuts and mixed nuts; music CDs; new magazines (current events, sports magazines, etc.); peanut butter cracker packs; playing cards and card games; cotton swabs (small packages or 30 put in plastic sandwich bags); small writing tablets and envelopes; hotel-size soap bars; sunflower seeds; trail mix; tuna, salmon, chicken and Spam in foil pouches; and white cotton socks (boot style/calf size, not crew or ankle socks).
