CAP: Commissions for Activities and Programs

One of the most significant programs developed by the Office of the Senior Vice President was a result of Drexel University's exclusivity partnership with the Coca-Cola Company. The Commissions for Activities and Programs fund (CAP) was developed in 1999 to assist in the funding of worthy campus community activities. The commissions that Drexel University receives from the Coca-Cola vending machines around campus fund CAP. Campus organizations may apply to CAP to assist in the funding of programs by picking up a form in the Campus Activities office located in the Creese Student Center.

These funds have been used to support a wide variety of activities and projects, including:

  • Drexel Recycling Program
  • Employee Appreciation Day BBQ
  • Alternative Spring Break programs
  • Lounge furniture at the Kelly and Calhoun residence halls
  • Construction of the Greenawalt Student Development Center
  • Lambda Chi Alpha's EarthFest, community programming to celebrate Earth Day
  • Funding for the Student-Faculty Lunch sponsored by the Pan Hellenic Council
  • Undergraduate Student Government Association "Tees for Threes" Program
  • T-shirts and programs for local public school children participating in Drexel Dream Day
  • Funding for the Drexel University Dance Team to participate in Summer Dance Camp

Recycling Program

Drexel's Recycling Program has grown tremendously since it was implemented in 1997. Nearly 20 percent of the University's waste stream is now being recycled. What began with just the recycling of paper, the program today includes mixed paper, glass, plastic, aluminum, cardboard and hazardous-type materials such as fluorescent lamps, motor oil, industrial batteries, computers, electrical equipment, and tires. The recycling program also operates a composting center to aid in the removal of cut grass, leaves and tree limbs from the waste stream.

Current receptacles for recycling materials on campus consist of nine large outdoor co-mingled recycling containers, over 200 indoor co-mingled recycling containers, and hundreds of small desk-side paper recycling containers.
