Note-Taking Policy: Student Responsibilities
All individuals who are eligible for, and choose to use note-takers as an accommodation at Drexel University are required to complete a Individual Note-Taker Agreement Form. For additional information regarding eligibility and requesting auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services, go to: Requesting Accommodations. The Individual Note-Taker Agreement form can be picked up in the Office of Disability Services (ODS) or printed from the ODS website at Note-Taking Agreement Form.
The exchange of notes between note-takers and individuals with disabilities can occur in multiple ways; through the use of carbonless NCR paper, e-mail, or through ODS. NCR paper is available at the front desk of ODS. If individuals with disabilities choose to exchange notes directly with the note-taker, NCR paper can be picked up by either the individual with a disability or the note-taker. Upon registration with ODS, individuals with disabilities can choose to receive notes from a note-taker directly, or by picking up the notes at ODS. Individuals with disabilities can elect to change their preferred option with ODS. All written requests will be addressed by ODS in a timely manner.
It is the responsibility of the individual with a disability to contact the faculty or staff member and ODS, in the event the quality or timeliness of receiving the notes is not appropriate. When individuals with disabilities present note-taking concerns, including not receiving notes, receiving notes more than twenty-four hours after each course/program, the inadequacy of the notes, and other legitimate concerns, the University is responsible for resolving each complaint, up to and including replacing the note-taker in a timely manner. Please note that the University can only respond in a timely manner when ODS is properly notified by the student with a disability. Note-taker training is available by ODS. For additional information regarding note-taker training, go to: Note-Taker Training.
When individuals with disabilities are eligible for note-taking, it does not relieve individuals with disabilities from their responsibility of meeting the attendance requirements of the course/program. If individuals with disabilities miss class for reasons not related to their disability, note-taking services are not provided for that class/program. If absences are disability related, documentation must be submitted to ODS and accommodations need to be requested prior to the absence.
