Responsibilities

University Responsibilities

1. Office of Disability Services
The Office of Disability Services (ODS) is responsible for securing alternative formats for required reading materials, when the accommodation is determined to be appropriate for an individual with a documented disability. 

2. Faculty
In response to students with disabilities presenting Accommodation Verification Letters (AVL) to instructors, faculty will provide advance lists to students with documented disabilities.   

3. Campus
When campus members and University affiliates are aware that an individual with a documented disability is requesting recommended auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services from ODS, requests will be honored unless the request would fundamentally alter the nature, learning outcome of the requirement, or essential functions of a position within an employment environment.

Employees and Student Responsibilities

Employees and students with disabilities are responsible for:

1.  Registering with the Office of Disability Services (ODS) for determination of eligibility for alternative formats, as they are for other accommodations due to disability. For additional information about eligibility for and registering with ODS for the receipt of auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services, go to Requesting Accommodations.

2.  Collaborating with supervisors, faculty, and staff by securing the information necessary to complete the Required Reading Request Form, available at: Required Reading Materials.

3.  Purchasing all materials, such as textbooks in their original form, just as any other student is required to do.  For additional information regarding requesting services, go to: Requesting Accommodations.  

4.  Making requests for specific materials in alternative formats to ODS. For additional information regarding these requests, go to: Requesting Alternative Formats.

5.  Abiding by the laws, policies, and procedures governing the use of copyrighted materials by completing the Acknowledgement and Agreement Under the Chafee Amendment Form. The Acknowledgement and Agreement to Comply with the Chafee Amendment Form is available at ODS and at: Individual Acknoweledgement and Agreement Form.

6.  Completing an Alternative Format Agreement Form. The Form is available for pick up at ODS and at:  Alternative Format Agreement Form.

7.  Understanding the receipt of alternative formats in advance of the course/program is dependent upon auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services deemed appropriate for the individual.  For additional information on requesting accommodations, go to: Requesting Accommodations.

8.  Picking up the materials at ODS.

9.  Completing the Material/Equipment Loan Form with the Program Coordinator at ODS, prior to receiving the alternative formats.

10.  Returning all materials on loan from ODS within ten University working days¹ of the end of each term/semester or period of employment. Upon return, all individuals need to complete the Material/Equipment Loan Form with the Disability Specialist at ODS. 

11. Understanding the failure to return alternative format materials will result in a University Hold being placed on a student’s University account. The return of materials in employment situations will be treated as any other situation where University property is not returned. ¹ University days means days when the University is open for normal business operations.

Campus Guests Who Have Disabilities

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) recognizes that campus guests who have disabilities may have accommodation needs in order to participate in Drexel University’s programs and activities.
