Note-Taking Policy
In accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504) and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), Drexel University and the Office of Disability Services (ODS) is committed to the provision of auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services for people with documented disabilities. When it is determined that a note-taker is a reasonable and appropriate auxiliary aid, and the individual has requested the accommodation, a procedure exists for the provision and receipt of note-taking services.
Auxiliary aids, accommodations, and services are determined by ODS, in collaboration with instructors and program departments. Academic adjustments, auxiliary aids, and services provide a modification to the academic environment, but cannot lower academic requirements or learning outcomes of a course or program. In other words, the provision of accommodations and services due to disability cannot fundamentally alter the nature of the course or program.
Individuals with disabilities are responsible for sharing their Accommodation Verification Letter (AVL) with campus faculty and staff from whom note-taking is being requested. When sharing the AVL with the faculty or staff member, individuals with disabilities are encouraged to share the AVL in advance of class and in a confidential manner.
