Converting Required Reading Materials

When materials in the necessary format are not available from outside entities, the Office of Disability Services (ODS) will convert the required reading materials internally. When this method of securing alternative formats is required, the reading material needs to be checked into ODS for conversion.

All requests for alternative formats are processed by ODS on a first-come, first serve basis. After an image of the material is secured, the reading material is available to be picked up by the individual with a disability in ODS. When alternative formats are available to be picked up, individuals with disabilities will be contacted via e-mail. ODS will put forth every effort to complete the conversion as early as possible. If requested, ODS will work individually to provide sections of the material as it is available.  If requesting sections as they are available is a chosen method, this needs to be indicated on the Alternative Format Request Form, available at Equipment / Material Request Form. The order of priority of the sections must be listed, from first to last.

When the spines of the textbooks need to be removed in order scan the materials, ODS will present choices to the student. All choices/requests need to be made to ODS at the time the Equipment/Material Request Form is submitted for each required reading material.

Return Options:

Option 1: To have the material returned after conversion in loose leaf form.
Option 2: To request the textbook be rebound after conversion.
