Closed Captioning
When people who are deaf or hard of hearing participate in the academic environment, there may be courses or programs which use films and other media that may not be captioned to allow for automatic access. People with disabilities need to plan ahead for their needs by making accommodation requests to the Office of Disability Service (ODS). For additional information regarding requesting accommodations, go to: Requesting Accommodations.
Films and digital media used in a work and college setting may not be captioned. When students have an accommodation need to access closed captioned materials, requests need to be made to ODS and the faculty member. The faculty member has a responsibility to provide the publication information regarding the media to the student and ODS in a timely manner. Publication information includes the title, author/producing company, year of publication, and AISN number. ODS will need four to six weeks to convert the media to include captions, one the completed request is received, although every effort will be made to fulfill all reasonable requests. The Closed Captioning Request Form allows requests to be completed and submitted by email to ODS at disability@drexel.edu.
