Recognition Instructions

Student Organization Recognition for 2008-2009
It’s that time of year again when ALL student organizations need to become Recognized again as an official Student Organization for the upcoming 2008-2009 year!
Recognition does expire, and student organizations must apply for and receive Recognition annually based on the University’s fiscal year, which begins July 1st and ends June 30th.
All student organizations can start renewing their Recognition in the Spring Term (May) for the upcoming University fiscal year.
All University and student organizational budgets are based according to this yearly fiscal cycle (July 1 – June 30), and student organizations are only able to access and use these funds if they are established as a Recognized student organization for that fiscal year cycle.
The Recognition process primarily consists of:
- Completing the Student Organization Recognition Form,
- Having a Constitution on file with OCA, and
- Having the President, Treasurer, and any 3rd member of the student organization attend a required revised SOOT training during each fiscal year period.
Since student organizations need to become re-Recognized each fiscal year, attendance at SOOT is required each year. Eight (8) new/revised SOOT presentations will be offered during May and June to begin helping organizations become recognized early, and SOOT workshops will be held multiple times each month throughout the year.
Furthermore, for those student organizations that are Recognized in a given year, (ie: 2007-2008), and have not yet completed the Recognition process (for the 2008-2009 yearly cycle), OCA will still allow these organizations to have access to reserve space for meetings and events until November 1st. (even though these groups will not be able to access their budgets until they have completed the Recognition process for 2008-2009)
After this date, only student organizations that have fully renewed or completed the Recognition process for that fiscal year, will be eligible for student organization benefits (including reserving space).
Recognition is a privilege given to student organizations that agree to comply with institutional policies and procedures.
