The public only sees the aftermath of success, the actual achievement. The real success is found in the struggles and achievements of hard work every day. Join Kate in this uniquely personal and interactive discussion-based presentation and share your own stories of success in the face of adversity. Light food and refreshments provided.
Presenter Bio: Kate Hynes was born and raised in the small rural town of Brookville, Pennsylvania. She started her diving career on her seventh birthday, with former coach Dave Hrovat. After working with him for twelve years she decided to attend Drexel University after being recruited at several other schools. During her time at Drexel she was coached by Larry May, who helped her reach the highest level of excellence in her college athletic career. Hynes was a four-time CAA Diver of the Year and won the CAA Championship on both the 1-meter and 3-meter board in each of her four seasons. Hynes and 24 others were selected as CAA “Silver Stars” – the 25 student-athletes who have had the greatest impact on the conference over the past 25 years – out of more than 50,000 student-athletes, including thousands of all-conference performers, hundreds of All-Americans and numerous athletes who have gone on to compete and excel at the professional level and in the Olympic Games. In addition to her conference dominance, Hynes was a two-time All-America on the 3-meter board and qualified for the NCAA Championships three times on both boards. Hynes finished her career undefeated in dual meets while establishing pool records at schools throughout the east coast. Hynes stood out in the classroom as well as she collected College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America accolades and was a three-time Philadelphia Inquirer Women's Swimming & Diving Academic Performer of the Year as well as a three-time Academic All-District honoree. Currently, Kate Hynes is in her fifth and final year at Drexel University. She has completed all four years of her NCAA eligibility, and now works to tutor other student athletes and volunteer coaches with former coach May. After she earns her degree at Drexel, she plans to attend law school in the fall of 2010.

After a guided tour of the museum, the group will engage in a discussion about the development of human civilization, and how particular organizational styles proved to be more effective during certain time periods. Participants will be asked to identify a single leader highlighted within the museum, and present one unique characteristic of that person that enabled him/her to be successful as a leader. Due to the nature of this CEO event, space is limited.

“With the U.S. Department of Justice issuing subpoenas like free rooms to high rollers in Las Vegas, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) rapidly has become a growing hazard for individuals and businesses operating abroad. As seen by the U.S. government’s case against York International, vendors to the hotel industry are not being spared. And it is only a matter of time before the government looks more closely at other industry practices, including hotel development and operations. Given the potential for jail time, multimillion-dollar fines and the high priority the government is placing on FCPA enforcement, it is the kind of guest best avoided.” - Drimmer
Jonathan Drimmer is a Partner at the international law firm Steptoe & Johnson in Washington, D.C., where he specializes in representing transnational corporations, business enterprises and Securities Law in which he has testified twice before Congress. He has overseen many investigations that have taken place across the globe, and helped develop media and strategic communication approaches. His cases have spanned a spectrum of industries and issues, including securities fraud, health care fraud, corruption, professional malpractice, employment and labor, RICO violations, deceptive trade practices, tax strategies, and banking and investments.

Money for Nothing goes deep inside the elite world of corporate leaders to reveal its inner workings and show how the glaring failures of the system have imperiled our economy. Their failures of leadership, as portrayed in this book that have led to wave after wave of scandals. In the most recent economic collapse, almost all attention has focused on the greed, recklessness or incompetence of CEOs rather than the negligence of many boards, who ought to be held equally, if not more, accountable because the CEOs theoretically work for them. John will expose an interconnected, self-perpetuating system of corporate control that too often ignores the owners while squandering or siphoning off much of the earnings. John Gillespie was an investment banker for 18 years with Lehman Brothers, Morgan Stanley and Bear Stearns and served as the Executive VP and CFO for a nationwide human services company with 24,000 employees. Prior to his career in business, he worked in Massachusetts state government and as a speechwriter. He graduated from Harvard College where he studied American History and literature and was an editor of the Harvard Lampoon. He has an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He is also Net Impact member, an international organization that inspires business leaders and consumers to create a more socially and environmentally sustainable world. He is married to New York writer Susan Orlean.
