    Below, is an illustration of how file sharing can be locked down in Windows XP Home if the hard drive has been formatted in NTFS. If the drive was FAT32 formatted, this option will not be available and we would recommend turning file sharing off altogether.

    This is the only way users can lock down shared folders or files in Windows XP Home. While assigning individual file or folder permissions may seem time consuming, having your PC compromised and then having to reformat the drive is even more time consuming and stressful.

    1) Select the user you wish to modify, then click on the box to the right of the permission you wish to grant or deny. Click Okay to complete.
