Windows XP Service Pack 2
Windows XP Service Pack 2 will be available via Windows Automatic Update beginning Wednesday, August 25, with a staggered roll out. Service Pack 2 is designed to provide users the latest security updates from Microsoft and is the most extensive free update to Windows. This update focuses primarily on security in response to the number of attacks that Windows XP has had in over the last year.
All users running the Windows XP operating system on their personally owned or university computers will be affected by the Service Pack 2 update. If you have your Windows XP system set up to do automatic updates, as IRT recommends, then starting on Wednesday, August 25, 2004, this large service pack could be downloaded and installed automatically on your system. Because the update is being rolled out gradually, most people will not see this until a little later in August.
The following conflicts may arise with Windows XP Service Pack 2 (click on the links for more detailed information): REMEMBER: These possible issues may arise only after the SP2 update has been installed on your computer.
- Symantec Anti Virus “Not Found” --IRT staff have not experienced this; however, if you get a message indicating that your antivirus software is not found, click this link to find out how to correct the message.
The Microsoft site listed here, describes the new Security Center control panel item installed with Service Pack 2. The Security Center collects the essential security information on your computer in once place so you can monitor it
