    1. Open Outlook Express and click the Tools menu, then click on "Accounts".

    2. Click the Mail tab, select your Drexel account and click "Properties"

    3. If using IMAP ("IMAP" will appear in the parentheses after "Incoming mail"), the server name must be set to "imap.mail.drexel.edu"; if using POP ("POP" will appear in the parentheses after "Incoming mail"), the server name must be set to "pop.mail.drexel.edu".  Also, make sure that the "Outgoing server" is set to "smtp.mail.drexel.edu".  Finally, click the box next to "My server requires authentication" near the bottom of the window.

    4. Click the "Advanced" tab.  Check both of the boxes next to "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)".  When you check the one under "Incoming server", the number in the box should change from 143 to 993 if you're using IMAP or from 110 to 995 if you're using POP.  When you check the one under "Outgoing server", the port number will be set to 25, you must manually change it to 465.

    5. Click OK to save the changes to your account, then Close to close the "Internet Accounts" window.  Outlook Express should now be able to communicate securely with IRT's mail servers.  If you still have problems, please contact the IRT help desk at (215)895-2698 or consult@drexel.edu for further assistance.
