    DrexelOne: Downloading Attachments Using Internet Explorer 6 on Windows

    Since the DrexelOne portal was upgraded in April 2006, some people using Internet Explorer to access the portal have noticed an extra step in downloading or opening e-mail attachments.  This is due to a change in the behavior of the DrexelOne mail client. 

    1. When you click on message attachment in DrexelOne, you'll first see a "Detach File" dialog box like this:

Notice the "IE Information bar" near the top of that window?  That's the beige or yellow-colored bar directly above "Detach File".  What the message there means is that Internet Explorer knows that you're downloading a file and warning that some files you may download can be dangerous.  In order to download the file, you need to click on that beige/yellow bar and click "Download File..." in the menu that appears:

    3. After clicking "Download File...", you should see the normal "File Download" dialog window where you can choose to open or save the attachment.  Choose whichever option is appropriate.  If you just want to view the file, then "Open" should be fine.  If you're going to be making changes to it or want to read it off-line, you'll want to select "Save" and save the file to your computer somewhere, like your My Documents folder or Desktop.

    If you'd like to streamline this process, you can tell Internet Explorer to "trust" Drexel websites.  This won't prevent the "Detach File" window from appearing, but it will save you the step of clicking the Info bar and then "Download File..."
