"I go to Bannerweb, but the links aren't there! The window is just blank!"
Since the Banner database was updated back in June, some users have reported that when they go into Bannerweb, the links that should be there are missing. After some investigation, most of the people who reported this problem were using some version of Norton Internet Security (aka: NIS - a privacy/security software that comes pre-loaded on many new computers).
For some reason, NIS (and possibly some other similar programs) believes the links on the Bannerweb to be advertisements and blocks them accordingly. In order to see the Bannerweb pages correctly, you need to either disable Norton Internet Security (or just the Ad Blocking function) or configure it to allow "ads" to appear on Drexel websites that you visit.
If you opt to disable NIS altogether, you're also turning off the virus protection and firewall components, which is not a good idea on today's internet. Also, the ad-blocking feature is very useful for preventing spyware and adware infection, so disabling that feature entirely is not a very attractive idea, either. To that end, we'll provide instructions here that will help you to configure NIS to allow "ads" on Drexel websites (any website ending in ".drexel.edu"). Please click here to go to the instructions.
If you're not using Norton Internet Security, but are using another type of security software or ad-blocker, please send an e-mail to consult@drexel.edu and let us know what software you're using. Please be as specific as possible and be sure to include your name, user ID, as well as the platform (Windows or Macintosh) and the web browser you're using (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, etc.).
