Email: SMTP Settings
On Campus:
MAIL Settings for On Campus users, connected to the Drexel network, can be found at our Configure Email Client page.
Off Campus:
Your settings for outgoing SMTP server may point to your own ISP's SMTP server, if you do not wish to send mail as someone@drexel.edu. If you send mail as someone@yourisp.com or .net, you may have to indicate that your From address is an email address in
their domain -- if yours is one of those, you'll also need to change
your "email address" setting. You may also wish to set
your Reply-to address to be your @drexel.edu address if your email
client supports this. If your software does not support Reply-to,
you might want to add a reply-to to your signature.
Table of SMTP servers for common Internet Service Providers (ISP)
NOTE: This table is not current. If your ISP is not on this list, you'll need to contact them for the name of their
SMTP server and whether or not they restrict the "from" address.

AOL users, please see special note. |
Special note for Verizon users:
Verizon users must use outgoing server authentication using Verizon ID & password. Note that some
clients (Eudora specifically) do not allow this.
Special note for AOL users:
AOL, which is not strictly an Internet Service Provider, does not make SMTP service
available to its subscribers. If you use only AOL's built-in email software to send
email, then the upcoming change at Drexel will not affect you. Otherwise, you will
need to make a change: either switch to a true Internet Service Provider, or change
the way you send email. One alternative is to use Drexel's web email interface,
http://one.drexel.edu
With this email option, you will not need to configure any server settings at all.
Mobile Computing (Both on and off campus laptop users)
SMTP AUTH (short for authentication) is a protocol which verifies the accuracy of the
e-mail source address (your "From" address) to prevent the forgery of email.
This allows the mail server to verify that any mail it is asked to deliver is actually
originating from a valid user on our server. See Configure Email for specific instructions.
This protocol is especially useful for mobile computing users (those with laptops) who
frequently travel back and forth from campus to home or other sites and who bring along
their laptop with them. Once you have configured your email program to use this
authentication feature, you would not have to re-configure each time you change locations
or connection methods. If your email program supports authentication, you can use
smtp.mail.drexel.edu rather than your ISP's smtp server name.
