OneNote is a program specifically designed for note taking, recording, and gathering information from a variety of resources.

How do I take notes in OneNote?

    •  You can type anywhere on the page using a keyboard, write or draw using a mouse or using a pen input device on your tablet pc.

    •  You can take notes in your own hand writing or make sketches by using a pen input device.

    •  NOTE: When using OneNote on a tablet pc, hand written notes retain all the flexibility of typed notes – for example, you can format, search, add bullets, etc. You can also convert your hand written notes into text and share them with others.

    How do I use OneNote?

With OneNote, you will be able to take, organize, easily find, and share your notes, diagrams, graphics, drawings, and audio or video clips on a desktop, laptop or tablet PC.

    Use of Note flags

Note flags can be used to mark important items, questions, tasks, and reminders. You can flag notes as you work in OneNote.

    Note flags are available from:

    • The Format menu, select Note Flags command. OR
    • The Note Flag button on the Standard toolbar.

NOTE: The button may look different because it remembers the last type of flag you used and stays like that until you use a different flag.

    Customizing Note Flags

OneNote lets you customize note flags to meet your needs. You can change the name, icon symbol, and font, or highlight color of the five predefined note flags, or you can assign new names, icons, and colors to the undefined ones. For example, you can create a different flag for each of your tasks or for each person on a team. You can use a maximum of 25 flags.

    Searching for flagged notes

OneNote will help you find any flagged notes by grouping note flags and displaying them in a list.

To find flagged notes, use the Note Flags Summary task pane (On the Standard toolbar , click the view menu, and then select Note Flags Summary. ) The task pane will display on the right of the screen and a list of flagged notes will be displayed. You then have to group or sort note flags in one of the following ways:

    • By flag type (Note Flag Name)
    • By particular section
    • Page title
    • By when you took the notes

    Removing Flags from a note

When you no longer need to flag a note, for example, when you have completed a task, you can easily remove the note flag by using one of the following ways:

    • On the Format menu, select Note Flags and then click Remove Note Flags from Selection .
    • On the Standard toolbar, click the arrow next to the Note Flag button and then click Remove Note Flags from Selection .
    • On the Note Flags toolbar, click the Remove Note Flags from Selection button
    • Right–click the flag, then click Remove Note Flag
    • Press CTRL+0 from the keyboard
