    Accessing Networked Services

Now that you have your computer you need to be connected to the network to access networking services such as email, the Internet, and file servers. You will need the following information to continue:

    1. Do you have a telephone and network wiring station in your workspace?
      • A jack is the receptacle that you plug your phone or network cable in to.
      • A station is the box inside the wall that holds the jacks in place. Stations usually hold 1, 2 or 4 jacks.
    2. If you do, is it active? Try plugging your computer into the network jack.
      • If you have a Windows computer, does the small light on the back of your computer turn on? If so, your jack is active and you can continue to the Ethernet section.
      • If you have a Mac, please follow the steps listed in the Ethernet section.
    3. If your jack is not active, write down the telephone and network wiring station number.
    4. To request a new jack or request an existing jack to be activated, send email to network-request@drexel.edu or call 215-895-5862.

Make sure to give the following information:

      • Your Name, Building Name, Room number and Department
      • Your Email address and phone number
      • If you have a jack, your jack number
      • If you do not have a jack, a description of the location in the room where you would like the network jack installed.
