Uninstalling and Reinstalling Java
If you are on a
- Windows PC,
- you are using Microsofts Internet Explorer (IE), and
- experiencing problems with Chat / Whiteboard or
- file management and file uploads
then you should follow the instructions listed below.
The preferred solution is to uninstall all versions of Java you
have on your computer and install the latest version of J2SE JRE
1.4.2, which is detailed below. If you

How to Remove Previous Versions of Java
- Open up the Control Panel
- Double-click on the Add or Remove Programs icon
- Highlight the entry that begins with Java
- Click the Remove button
- Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until all installations of Java
are removed
Get Version 1.4.2 of the Java Software
- Go to http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/download.html
- Click on the Download J2SE JRE link
- Click on the Accept radio button
- Click on the Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language link
- When prompted, click the Save button
- Choose a location on your computer, we recommend the Desktop,
and click the Save button
- Navigate to the location you saved the file to
- Double-click on the file to begin installation; you may need
to click the Run button if you are prompted
- Follow the prompts to install
Turn Off Automatic Updates
- Open up the Control Panel
- Double click on the Java Plug-in icon
- Go to the Update tab
- Uncheck the Check for Updates Automatically checkbox
- Click the Apply button
