IRT Blast Repair
Over the past ten days the University has been hit with a number of malicious programs that exploit a flaw
in Microsoft Windows. Some computers were protected because they were kept up-to-date at
www.windowsupdate.com by their owners; others have been compromised by
one or more of these malicious programs.
If your computer displays a blue screen when starting send your contact information including name,
phone number, and building to consult@drexel.edu.
The worm does not affect Windows 95, 98 and ME users. Therefore, users running these systems need to do nothing.
Download Network Associates' Blast repair tool for Windows NT/2000/XP
- When prompted, choose to save the file to a convenient location on your hard disk (such as your Desktop folder).
- When the download is complete, navigate to the folder that contains the downloaded Stinger.exe file, and run it. WindowsME/XP users read this first.
- The Stinger interface will be displayed.
- If necessary, click the Add or Browse button to add additional drives/directories to scan. By default the C: drive will be scanned.
- Click the Scan Now button to begin scanning the specified drives/directories.
- By default Stinger will repair all infected files found.
If you are still having trouble using your computer, please contact IRT at (215) 895-2698 for assistance.
