Gift solicitation at Drexel University takes place within a centralized fundraising environment administered by the Office of Institutional Advancement. As a matter of procedure, Drexel University faculty and staff may not solicit gifts of any type without Institutional Advancement having prior knowledge of and involvement in the solicitation. This coordinated fundraising effort is vital for both the achievement of the Universityıs fundraising goals and the continuation of favorable donor relations. It is expected that all employees of the University will comply with this procedure.

The dynamics of donor relationships with alumnae/i, friends, parents of students, patients and their families, faculty and staff are such that all components of engagement and their many variables must be coordinated through Institutional Advancement to ensure there is no duplication of effort or missed opportunity for giving. Institutional Advancement can confirm if a prospect is being engaged by the President or another individual or college or school within the University. Institutional Advancement operates under a code of principles and standards of professional fundraising practices, related to the IRS charitable giving guidelines, to ensure that gifts are ethically secured.

Accordingly, all faculty and staff with an interest in pursuing gifts must contact Institutional Advancement before engaging in any gift solicitation activities. A development officer will work with you to develop a plan for gift procurement, including correspondence with donors, development of appropriate legal and accounting documentation and notification of potential donor engagement within the University system. Once a gift is received, Institutional Advancement will acknowledge the gift and work with the appropriate department or individuals to recognize it.
