American College of Sports Medicine and American Heart Association Recommendations for Physical Activity

Adults should be active at least 2 ½ hours a week at moderate-intensity, or 1 hour 15 minutes of vigorous activity per week, or an equivalent combination of the two. Muscle strengthening activity that involves all major muscle groups on 2 or more days per week is also recommended.

For more extensive and additional health benefits, adults should increase their physical activity to 5 hours of moderate-intensity activity per week, or 2 ½ hours of vigorous activity per week, or an equivalent combination of the two.

Drexel Recreation Center

The Drexel Recreation Center is the heart of recreation, wellness and relaxation at Drexel's University City Main Campus. The 240,00 sq. ft. recreational is a place for faculty and staff to have fun, relieve stress and feel good through exercise and fitness.

Courses, Classes & Lessons

Drexel’s Recreational Athletics office offers a variety of fitness and safety instructional programs and classes to help faculty and staff maintain a healthy lifestyle, including health and wellness programs, aquatics program and certifications, and climbing wall programs.

IBC Healthy Lifestyles

Faculty and staff at Drexel University and Drexel University College of Medicine can take advantage of the Healthy Lifestyles program, a wellness program from Independence Blue Cross (IBC) designed to educate and encourage healthy behavior through incentive and active participation. The Healthy Lifestyles program offers support and guidance for Drexel employees who are participating members of IBC.

Lunch & Learn Discussions

The Recreational Athletics office offers a nutrition seminar series and nutritional consultations to Drexel University and Drexel University College of Medicine employees during each term. Topics may include stress management, healthy snacking, and nutrition myths.
