Donor Guidelines

Eligibility
  • Are you 17 years old or older?
  • Do you weigh 110 pounds or more?
  • Are you generally in good health?
If you answered “Yes” to these three, simple questions, then you can probably donate blood – most people can!

When you arrive at a blood drive, a trained American Red Cross staff member will determine your eligibility to donate. There are conditions and circumstances that can make a person temporarily or indefinitely ineligible to donate blood.

If you have specific questions about your eligibility, please call 1-800-GIVE LIFE.

Just 56 Days
After making a blood donation, you need only wait 56 days before making another.

Most donors only give once or twice a year, though they can give up to six times per year. If every donor gave just one more donation a year, there would always be enough blood for everyone and anyone in need.

Please Bring ID
When you come to donate blood, please bring some form of identification. An American Red Cross blood donor card, a driver’s license or a work place ID are all good options.
