CAA Blood Challenge!

Drexel Athletics announces the 10th Annual Have A Heart Colonial Athletic Association Blood Challenge on October 20, 2011.

Help the Dragons surpass last year's total of 1045 pints collected and win the CAA Challenge for the 5th year in a row! The Red Cross will be collecting blood at the University City Main Campus, Center City Hahnemann Campus, and Sacramento Campus.

In 2010, the Drexel Dragons beat arch rival University of Delaware Blue Hens and matched their 5-year winning record! YOU can make a difference in helping save someone's life and at the same time help Drexel win the CAA Blood Challenge.

The idea for a CAA Blood Challenge came from the league presidents/chancellor as a fun way to emphasize the critical importance of donating blood. Each CAA institution works with its local blood service center and designates one day during the fall term to conduct a campus-wide blood drive. Student groups, faculty, staff, and alumni are all encouraged to participate.

The ninth-annual Colonial Athletic Association Blood Challenge shattered all previous records with 4,498 actual donors and 4,718 productive units of blood collected from the 12 CAA campuses. The total represents a 7.8% increase in the amount of blood collected from last year’s Challenge and is nearly four times the amount that was collected during the inaugural campaign in 2002. The CAA Blood Challenge has resulted in 26,819 productive units of blood since it began.

The need is constant. The gratification is instant. However, only 38% of the population is eligible to give blood and only 5% actually do. But, if you can’t donate blood on October 20th, you can still participate in the 10th CAA Blood Drive Challenge by volunteering, making a donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund or participating in a letter writing campaign to the F.D.A. regarding its Donor Deferral Policy.
