Congratulating Our Women's Basketball Team on an Inspirational Season

Dear Members of the Drexel Community,

Please join me in congratulating Head Coach Amy Mallon and our women’s basketball team on a thrilling season, which came to a close this afternoon in the NCAA Championship Tournament. The Dragons made an epic four-day, four-victory run to capture their second conference tournament championship in four years. They followed up that unforgettable performance with a valiant effort in the “Big Dance” against the top-seeded University of Texas at Austin today.

The team’s poise, resilience, and courage have inspired us all. They won four consecutive games in the CAA tournament —defeating rivals Delaware and Towson and the top two seeds, Monmouth and Stony Brook — to become the only women’s or men’s team in Philadelphia to earn a bid to the NCAA Championships.

The Dragons acquitted themselves with class in representing Drexel University at its best on college basketball’s biggest stage.

This season was a triumph, and our student-athletes, coaches and professional staff have every reason to be proud. I will always be grateful to them for bringing so much excitement and joy to our campus this past winter and spring.

The team’s mantra reminds us of the strength our unity can bring — by working together and supporting one another we will achieve great things, “because we can!”

Sincerely,

John Fry
President
